What is Tea Tree Oil?
The tea tree can be found in Australia and Asia. As the name implies, the
leaves of the tea tree were used to make tea and the oil from the leaves was
used to treat various diseases such as foot fungus, minor cuts and various
different types of skin conditions.
Because of this oils many uses; it has
earned the nickname "First Aid Kit in a Bottle". Other common names for
this oil include Teebaum, Melaleuca Oil and Ti Tree.
Today however the oil is widely used to effectively treat acne. There
have been studies to show that this treatment is just as effective as the
ever so well advertised and heavily marketed Proactiv Solution. In addition
use of tea tree oil caused far less skin irritation and dryness.
What Are Common Uses for This Oil?
A little drop of this oil goes a long ways. It has been used to treat any number of the following conditions:
*Foot Fungus
*Cuts and Bruises
*Acne
*Gum disease
*Sun burn and Rash
One major benefit of tea tree oil is using it to treat common acne. Simply take a
drop of oil and mix it in a glass of water or milk and use a swab to apply the
mixture to acne prone area. Rinse clean after 10 or 15 minutes.
Adding a few drops of oil to your regular shampoo will work for a variety of
hair-related problems including dandruff, itchy scalp and even as a
preventative for head lice. Ideally, you should leave it on for five or ten
minutes, then rinse.
Another tea tree oil use includes soothing of sore and injured muscles. This
can be accomplished either by directly applying the oil to the affected areas
or by diluting the oil in warm bath water. Similarly it can also lessen the
pain associated with sprains and arthritis.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Possible side effects include:
*Irritation of sensitive skin
*Allergic reaction in some people
*Chest pains and shortness of breath
