Whatis Solodyn? Similar to minocycline,Solodyn is a tetracycline antibiotic used to “seek and destroy” bacteria which causes the acne. It is a prescription medication given to patients with chronically persistent acne which cannot be treated by conventional over the counter acne products. Along with acne, Solodyn and minocycline are use to fight various other infection within the body including: Gonorrhea, tick fever, urinary tract infection and of course severe cases of acne. Solodyn Precautions: Being such a strong medication for acne, Solodyn has several warnings which need to be adhered to and proper precautions need to be taken. The first warning of course is that expecting mothers SHOULD NOT take this medication as it has a strong potential of causing harm to the fetus or possible miscarriage. Use of this medication is also strongly discouraged after child birth as it has the potential to pass through the breast milk and cause deterioration or the bone and teeth. When it comes to taking precautions, use the medication as directed by your physician or dermatologist. In most cases, this medication is to betaken with water, not dairy products. However make sure you check with your doctor or pharmacist to avoid any conflicts. Also make sure the physician prescribing Solodyn is aware of any other medical conditions, if any, that you may suffer from such as liver disease, kidney disease or any allergies to tetracycline antibiotics. Lastly, make sure to store the medication at room temperature and do not use this acne treatment past the expiration date. Proper use ofSolodyn Always make sure you complete the prescription in its entirety, even though acne may appeared to have subsided the bacteria may still be alive and present in the body ready to cause another acne breakout. In addition make sure you swallow the pill whole, and DO NOT chew or break the capsules as many are time-released; meaning as time goes by small amounts of the medication is released into the body to maintain a certain level. Breaking or chewing the pill WILL cause too much of the medication in the body and has the potential of doing serious harm. Contact your physician immediate should the capsule accidently break before swallowing. Side Effects of Solodyn Although you are not likely to experience all or any of the side effects of Solodyn, I will include some of them in the following list so that you know the risks before using this acne treatment. •redness, blistering •cramps or stomach pain •Itchiness or skin rash •unusual bleeding or bruising •unexpected tiredness or weakness •unusual yellowing of eyes or skin The Cost Perhaps the single biggest disadvantage of this acne treatment is that it can cost thousands of dollars, especially when compared to minocycline which runs a few dollars and delivers similar results. Some people have gone as far as to speculate that the dermatologist is paid handsomely by the drug companies to push such as expensive product on to the acne sufferers while cheaper alternatives exist. My Recommendation is that use one of the many over the counter acne treatments which is safe and effective before spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on Solodyn acne treatment.
