Steps to Popping a ZitAsk anyone, from the common folks to the medical professionals and they will all tell you that popping a zit is not a good idea. And rightly so, there is a general consensus that popping a pimple will distribute bacteria to the surrounding skin tissue and possibly lead to more zits and that the popped zit or pimple may even lead to acne scarring. However there are times when one chooses to go against the wisdom of the crowd and decides to annihilate the annoying whiteheads or blackheads which reside in the most inconvenient of places like the center of your forehead or chin where it sits on display for everyone to see. If you are experiencing one of those time and feel the need to pop the pimple, follow the precautions listed below. Material required for popping a zit: - Sterile needle
- Gauze square
- Latex glove (maybe)
- Ice
- Hydrogen peroxide or salicylic acid solution
Steps: How to pop a pimple Note: I only recommend this procedure if the zit needs popping. By this I mean the pimple is in its last stages and full of puss or white liquid and nearly ready to pop on its own. If the pimple or zit is quite small and NOT full of puss do NOT attempt this as it will make matters worse. 1.First and foremost, wash you hand thoroughly with soap or a mild cleanser; this will ensure that any residual bacteria is removed from your hands and will not cause any further problems or make matters worse. 2.Sterilize the needle. There are a number of different ways you can sterilize the needle including heating over an open flame such as with a lighter or matches. However I recommend placing the needle in boiling water for several minutes and then letting it cool. This will ensure that any bacterial residing on the needle is killed and will not cause any harm when popping a zit. 3. Now that you have all the required material in hand, gently pierce the zit and apply pressure to the surrounding skin to squeeze the zit and extract any liquid from it. Once the liquid is out, use a Kleenex or the gauge square to swipe up the liquid. Ideally use a dabbing motion to allow the liquid to soak into the cloth; this will ensure that you are not spreading the bacteria on the rest of your skin. 4.Once the zit is complete popped and the extracted waste cleaned up, use a good amount of gauze to apply small amounts of hydrogen peroxide (buy at local drug store) to clean the surface where the pimple used to reside. If you do not have hydrogen peroxide, you could squeeze about 10-15 drops of lemon juice on the gauze cloth and use it for cleaning. This will help remove access bacteria and restore the PH balance of your skin. 5.Last but not least think of this zit popping experience as a minor operation you just performed on yourself. And as with all operations you may experience some swelling. This is where the ice come in, place the ice in a plastic bag and apply to the swollen area for 3-5 minutes or until the swelling goes down. That’s all there is to popping a zit. Of course I only recommend this good way to pop a zit procedure in emergency cases, for instance if you have a hot date on a Friday night and a huge pimple just happens to appear on your forehead. In non-emergency cases or if you have large amounts of zits (like I used to) I recommend using and effective acne treatment such as ClearPores or AcneZine. Additional Resources
