Acne Myths - WhatDoes...Masturbation, Chocolate and Greasy Foods Have in Common?

They are only acne myths! Not the actualcause of acne!

Myth: Masturbation or Sex cause Acne!

Reality: We have received several e-mails from our visitors asking this very question. Our research shows that there is no link between masturbation, having sex and acne. From what we can tell, this a far-fetched tale that started around the 17th century to discourage premarital sex.

Myths: Stress Causes Acne!

Reality: Stress alone does not cause acne (Hair Loss maybe). However acne may be a side effect of some drugs used to treat stress.

Myth: Eating chocolate or greasy foods cause acne!

Reality: There are a number of heath related issues with chocolate and greasy food, Obesity or Over Weight being one of them. Fortunately acne is one of them. Besides I enjoy my "Mars Bar" couple of times a week and it’s had no effect on me.

Myths: Acne is a teenage condition

Reality: Nothing can be farther from the truth. Although acne is most prevalent in teenage year, many adults also suffer from this skin condition. NOTE: If acne is left untreated during the teenage years, it could leave scars on your face. No matter what your age, it is important to wash your face couple of times a day to prevent acne.

Myth: Popping your pimples is the best way to get rid of them!

Reality: Some people might tell you that popping your zits will make them less noticeable and help them heal faster, but they're wrong. Picking or popping your pimples pushes germs further under your skin, which could cause more redness, pain, and maybe even a nasty infection. And popping zits can lead to scarring, which could last forever.

Myth: Having a Tan will clear up your skin!

Reality: The only thing suntan will do for your skin is causing it to go darker! No surprise there right? Darker skin will prevent the redness cause from acne being less noticeable. When the tan fades, guess what? You got it, acne is still there. Besides any time you are in the sun, you should use proper sun protection. Too much exposure to sunlight can be cancerous.

These were some of the common AcneMyths, but by no means the only one's around. I am sure that there areseveral other Acne Myths floating around out there. We will try to addthem to our list so that you can make more informed decissions.
